Jo joined the Centre for Staff and
Educational Development in 1998 to work
with academics who wanted to make a start with online learning by getting
to grips with HTML. This work was later written up as a case study for the
book 'Case Studies in Technology and Teaching in Higher Education'
Jo has continued along the web development theme and has run courses
in various web authoring packages. She has been particularly involved
with web accessibility, and along with Rachel Chester in AHP undertook
a UEA teaching fellowship entitled 'Improving Accessibility to Web
Materials for Visually Impaired Users'. Jo continues to provide advice
and assistance to web developers and others who are interested in or
need to work in this area.
Jo's current preoccupations revolve around the Learning Technology Group and tackling issues concerned with the broad range of communication, information, and related technologies to support learning and teaching. As such Jo is involved in running and supporting Blackboard, UEA's Virtual Learning Environment, and she is keen to work closely with staff to develop quality online learning materials. She is also involved in researching, piloting and promoting emerging technologies that have an application in the learning context.
Jo is a member of the Association of Learning Technology.
