What is a wiki?
A wiki is an editable website. The main feature of a wiki is that users are able to add, remove, and change content.
How can wikis be used in teaching and learning?
Wikis are effective collaboration tools because they are simple to use and allow users to create and amend content. Groups often use wikis to:
Build resources
Develop presentations
Share information and practice on placements
Solve Problems
Submit assignments
Review, study, and discuss issues
Build communities

Perhaps the most famous wiki is the free encyclopedia Wikipedia. Other will known wikis include the free dictionary Wiktionary.
What do I need to start using wikis?
There are many free and commercially available wiki tools available. The Learning Technology Group are introducing a wiki extension to Blackboard in September. This will provide wiki functionality in the university's adopted virtual learning environment.
