Studentships and Scholarships for MPhil and PhD programmes in the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing at UEA.
Studentships
Details of studentships for 2013/14, including application deadlines, are expected to be publicised later in autumn 2012
There are up to 17 doctoral studentships available:
- 2 AHRC Studentship - available to UK or EU PhD applicants to the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing in the following subject: 1 Creative Writing and 1 English Language and Literature
- 2 School Studentships - available to any PhD applicant to the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing
- 3 University Studentships - available to any PhD applicant to the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Wrting
- 10 Faculty Studentships - available to any PhD applicant to any of the faculty's nine schools of study
- Current PhD students in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities can apply for School and Faculty Studentships.
How much would the funding be?
AHRC Studentships:
- UK applicants - funding covers full course fees and maintenance payment
- EU applicants - funding covers full course fees only.
Faculty and School Studentships:
- For UK and EU students funding includes a maintenance payment and covers full course fees
- For international students funding includes a maintenance payment and covers partial courses fees (funding for course fees is for the same amount for all students, but as courses cost more for international students, it does not cover the full amount).
Maintenance is paid at Current AHRC rates. In 2011-12 maintenance was £13,590 per year for full time students.
How can I apply?
- Your application for your PhD must be received by 17 February 2012 in order to be considered for a studentship
- You do not need to submit a separate application for studentships.
How are studentships awarded?
- Studentships are awarded on academic merit and the overall strength of the application.

Fellowships
Details of Creative Writing Fellowships
American Scholarships
- Two scholarships worth £6,000
- Open to American nationals registered on a postgraduate research degree in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities

UEA International Scholarships
- The University of East Anglia awards over £1,000,000 of scholarships each year to support international students in their studies
- All international students (outside the European Union) are considered for a scholarship
- Scholarships are for between 10% and 50% of tuition fees
