Nordic Translation conference

The second Nordic Translation Conference will take place Thursday 4 - Saturday 6 April 2013 at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, as part of the university's 50th anniversary celebrations. The keynote speakers are Andrew Chesterman, Riitta Oittinen, Ástráður Eysteinsson, and Anna Mauranen.

Reading the Target: Translation as Translation

The fifth Postgraduate Translation Symposium at the University of East Anglia aims to examine translation as a form of literature in its own right. New stories by David Whelan, Buku Sarkar, Ruth Gilligan and Rob Magnuson Smith

‘And Andrea’ is a new short story by current UEA Creative Writing MA student David Whelan and is published in the current edition of nth position – www.nthposition.com. Earlier this year David (pictured) published stories in the Valley Press ‘Front Lines’ anthology and the journals Five, Prole 8, Litro, and the New Voices section of Untitled Books, which this year also featured 2005 graduate Emily Midorikawa, and 2006 graduate Liz Adams. ‘The Visit’, a short story by recent graduate Buku Sarkar, who completed the MA in 2011, is meanwhile published in the ‘Amnesty’ issue of the journal n+1, which can be found online at www.nplusonemag.com. Another graduate of the 2011 MA, Ruth Gilligan, is published in the current issue of the Istanbul Review, along with 2010 MA alumnus Rob Magnuson Smith, who will also feature in the forthcoming spring issue of the Literarian, the magazine of the Centre for Fiction in New York. Rob was recently named as a Contributing Editor at Playboy.
