Welcome to Cast role-play training service Welcome to Cast role-play training service

We provide a comprehensive role-play training service and are a UEA commercial  enterprise operating within the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing.

How does role-play support learning?

Role-play is a powerful learning and teaching tool, immersing students in lifelike scenarios where they interact with other people in real time. Effective role-play is as close to ‘learning on the job’ as you can get, but without the risks associated with trying out new skills in a real-life situation.

Role-play enables participants to:

  • Learn through experience in lifelike scenarios with authentic characters
  • Build their confidence by trying out new skills and rehearsing techniques in a learning environment, before applying them at work
  • Increase self-awareness and understand the impact of their behaviour on others (such as clients, colleagues and customers) – this is further enhanced by constructive feedback from the role-player
  • Practice and prepare for difficult conversations and sensitive issues in a risk-free environment where mistakes are a learning opportunity
  • Demonstrate their skills for assessment, for example: communication skills, professional conversations, decision-making.

Skills such as these can be developed through role-play:

  • Communication and presentation
  • Listening, interviewing and problem-solving
  • Professional relationships, such as interpersonal skills and team-working
  • Customer service, including sales and negotiation
  • Management of people and projects.

Our Clients Our Clients

Cast clients include the Norwich Medical School and Schools of Social Work, Nursing, Midwifery and Pharmacy, for whom we provide role-play actors for class-based teaching, examinations and video-based training resources in consultation and communication skills. We have developed scripts and provided actors for training sessions for UEA’s Centre for Interprofessional Practice and have worked with clients external to UEA such as Brent Council Adult Social Care.
