The UEA Creative Writing International Scholarships
Inaugurated in 2012, these four generous scholarships are worth £11,900 each, equivalent to academic fees for an international (ie, non-EU) student joining the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction).
Two scholarships are available to applicants from North America. Another is available to an applicant from Africa. A fourth is available to an applicant from South East Asia. The awards are funded internally and the recipients are chosen by a panel of tutors on the Prose Fiction MA.
The purpose of the awards is to make it possible for high calibre students to join the course from overseas who might otherwise be inhibited by the cost of studying abroad. The main criterion for shortlisting will be the quality of the candidate's application including, crucially, the quality of the written work submitted. Interview performance will be considered as part of the candidate's application.
The inaugural scholars in 2012 were:
- Michele Tan from the Philippines
- Suzanne Ushie from Nigeria
- Sara Taylor from the USA
- Julianne Pachico and Lauren Rose, who shared the second North American scholarship.
