This annual scholarship is available for students on the Poetry strand of the MA in Creative Writing and is worth £5,000 to the recipient, equivalent to Home/EU academic fees to undertake the course.

Established by Kate Birch, a friend of the University, the scholarship is named after the Ink Sweat & Tears creative writing webzine run by Kate and edited by Bloodaxe poet Helen Ivory. The recipient is chosen by a panel of tutors on the MA, based on the material submitted in the student's application portfolio.

The inaugural Ink Sweat & Tears scholar was Eleanor Stewart in 2011, followed by:

  • Jennifer Grey in 2012.
