Biography

 

Cath Sharrock BA. PhD. Lecturer in English Literature

First came to UEA in 1994, having taught for three years at the University of Nottingham. She specialises in 18th and 19th-century literature and culture, with a particular interest in the history of medicine and all things hysterical. Her specific teaching and research areas include the cultural history of the nerves, sensibility and the idea of sympathy, the French Revolution Controversy in England and theories of gender and sexuality from the late 17th to 21st centuries.

Her main publications are a special edition of Paragraph on ‘Gender and Sexuality’ (1994) and, with Isobel Armstrong  and Joseph Bristow, the Oxford Nineteenth-Century Women Poets (1998), along with essays and articles on subjects from Mary Astell to hermaphrodites.
