David Sornig, 2008-09 Charles Pick Fellow

David Sornig was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. During the fellowship David worked on a novel that explores the cultural and moral landscape of global warming. His story 'Sunday Sunday' emerges from this work.

His debut novel Spiel was published by University of Western Australia Publishing in 2009. He holds a PhD in creative writing from Deakin University and lectures in creative writing at Flinders University in Adelaide. He is a fiction editor for Wet Ink Magazine, literary reviewer for The Melbourne Review and a regular contributor of fiction and essays to Griffith Review. His published work includes short fiction, memoir, essays, reviews and literary criticism.

His most recent work of short fiction ‘Your Voice is Lead’ will be published in Harvard Review 41, Fall/Winter 2011.

David was awarded an Australia Council for the Arts New Work Grant for 2012 to write a new novel set in Spain and England which explores contemporary cultures of political protest and personal transparency.
