| CAS | Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies for students studying with a Tier 4 visa |

| CMP | School of Computing Sciences |
| Codes of Practice | Written guidelines issued by an official body or a professional association to its members to help them comply with its ethical standards. |

| Compulsory Module | A module which students must take in their course. |
| Concession | Special request (granted by the University) for something to occur which is non-standard and outside of the Regulations, ie. a break in studies, changes to a students course or assessment etc. |
| Conduct | Your personal behaviour. The Calendar (Regulations) lists what the University expects of you in relation to your conduct while studying here. |
| Core Module | A module which students must take in their course and must attain the pass mark |
| CRB | Criminal Records Bureau. The CRB carries out checks which give details of any criminal offences to be revealed to the University |
| Credit | Credit is a nationally recognised measure of the amount of study and how much learning you have done. Each module you take has a credit value. |
| Deadline | The time or date which a piece of assessment/coursework has to be submitted. UEA has strict penalties for work not handed in on time. |
| Delayed First Sit | The University may approved a delayed first sit for a course test or examination in certain circumstances where students' performances were affected at the first attempt |

| Dissertation | An extended piece of writing based on extended reading and some independent research completed in the final year of a Bachelors degree, or part of a higher degree such as Masters. |

| Faculty | A collection of academic departments which are grouped together for teaching, research & administration purposes. UEA has 4 faculties - Arts & Humanities, Sciences, Social Sciences, Medicine & Health Science. |
| Fitness for Study | Students studying for qualifications of the University need to be fit or deemed fit for study throughout their course |

| Formative assessment | Assessment which does not count towards your final grade, but is a requirement for progression on your course. Failure to submit formative coursework does not always affect progression |

| Good cause | Where absence from assessments in unavoidable, evidence of this must be presented. Good cause (ie. another opportunity to take the assessment again as a first sit) will not normally be granted in the case of holidays or similar family commitments. | GSA | Graduate Students' Association, an independent university association run for, and by, postgraduate UEA students |
| HEAR | Higher Education Achievement Report. Is a personalised statement of achievement (transcript of grades and classification). The HEAR will also include a students activities outside the academic curriculum which contribute to the life of the University and the wider community. HEAR will be launched from 2013/14 |

| Hub | Provides administrative support for students. There are 4 hubs at the University for taught students. Your hub will be dependent on your School and if you are Undergraduate or Postgraduate |

| Intercalation | Refers to someone who is taking time out from their degree |
| ITCS | Rooms with an ITCS (information services) prefix can be found in the ITCS building opposite the entrance to the School of Chemistry and Pharmacy. The building includes PC's for students use. |

| Lecture | A formal presentation of information/ideas by a member of academic staff, usually to a large group of students |

| Mark Capped | A reassessment mark is capped at 40% (UG) and 50% (PGT). If a student has two attempts as and assessment, they will have marks capped as the second attempt could be inflated by prior knowledge, thus capping is fair to those students who passed at the first attempt. |
