These Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) can help you to find the right information you are looking for.

1) How do I know who my Adviser is?
Information regarding your Adviser is available on e:Vision. Use the online telephone book (portal, services tab, see UEA Directory) to find their details
2) What is the penalty system for late submission of undergraduate coursework?
If you submit your work beyond the deadline date, the mark received for your work will be penalised in line with the University's policy
3) My personal or medical circumstances are affecting my study, what should I do?
Speak to your adviser in the first instance, alternatively Dean of Students or SU Advice Centre. Students are expected to report any extenuating circumstances as promptly as possible. Delays in reporting circumstances are likely to limit the options available to the University to take account of your circumstances.
4) On what grounds can I request a coursework extension?
You can request an extension for medical or personal reasons if you can provide appropriate evidence. Computer problems are not normally regarded as a valid reason for needing an extension; you are expected to back up your work on a regular basis. Extensions are subject to approval.

If you have not passed all taught modules, you may be referred to reassessment in those modules failed. You will be notified of the modules in which you will be required to be reassessed. Reassessment may be by coursework or examination.

7) What do I need to take into the exam with me?
You must take your campus card into every exam. If you have lost this, go to the Library as soon as possible for a replacement. Consult the 'Guide to Students on Conduct for Exams' for more details on what to bring and importantly what NOT to bring into the exam
8) What if I miss an exam due to ill health?
If you are ill on the day of the exam, you must contact your Hub on the day of the exam. You must go the doctor (either on campus or your home doctor) and obtain a medical certificate covering your absence from your examination.
9) I need to be away from university during term time, do I need permission?
Leave of absence during a semester needs the prior permission of the Head of the relevant School.
10) If my contact details change, who do I need to inform?
You need to update your details on e:Vision immediately. Failure to notify a change in address is a breach of the University regulations.

My timetable clashes, what do I do?
Speak to your Hub who will advise you
How do I change course/modules?
You can get a change of module form from your Hub or by clicking on the link 'forms', obtain the relevant signatures and pass back to the Hub. Your request will be subject to formal UEA approval.
On what grounds can I request an extension?

What is the University’s plagiarism and collusion policy?
The University takes allegations of plagiarism or collusion seriously. Where plagiarism and/or collusion has occurred, offenders may be punished, and the punishment may extend to failing their degree, temporary suspension or permanent. What do I do if I’m not happy with my coursework marks?
Firstly contact the module organiser to obtain feedback on the work you have done. If the situation is not resolved by this, you can appeal against your marks using the University's Appeals Procedure. You should first try to resolve the matter informally before you can seek further advice or beginning the formal Procedure. Speak to your lecturer, Module Organiser, Personal or Senior Adviser, or your Hub for further advice.
Where and when will I receive my end of year marks?
Via e:Vison, in July
I think my marks are wrong on my end of year mark statement, what should I do?
If you have a query about your marks you must speak to your Hub contact in the first instance. A Team Leader in the Hub will look into this for you.
I want to withdraw from my course, what happens now?
Contact your Adviser or Course Director to discuss this in the first instance. If, after talking things over with your Adviser, you are sure that you wish to withdraw from the University, you should contact your Hub with a letter to confirm your decision.

FAQ's My Adviser
What is the role of an Adviser?
Your Adviser is there to provide you with ongoing support throughout your academic studies. You can speak to your Adviser confidentially about anything which is affecting your work or life as a student. You are invited to meet with your adviser a minimum of 3 times a year.
How do I know who my Adviser is?
Information regarding your Adviser is available on e:Vision.  Use the online telephone book (portal, services tab, see UEA Directory) to find their details
My Adviser is on holiday or leaving the University, who do I go and see?
Contact the Senior Adviser for your School. You can find out who the School's Senior Adviser is by looking in your student handbook which is available on the LTS website or Blackboard site
What do I need to do if my Adviser is away and I need help?
If the Adviser is going to be away for a substantial length of time, you should be allocated a stand-in Adviser. If it is a temporary absence, you could seek the advice of the senior adviser in the School or if it relates to a particular module, speak to the module organiser.

FAQ's Exams
Where can I find my exam timetable?
You will receive your individual timetables by email and e:Vision
What should I do if my exams are on at the same time?
This should not occur. The Assessment Office compile the examinations timetable and if you discover a timetable clash (which is very unlikely) you must direct your query initially to your Hub contact.
I am not sure where some of the exam venues are?
Campus maps are available on the website. Ensure you know how long it takes to get to each venue, you are required to be there 20 minutes beforehand
What do I need to take into the exam with me?

What if I miss an exam?
If you have not had prior approval to miss the exam, you will receive a mark of zero being recorded for the examination. Speak to your Hub if you have a good reason as to why you missed your exam, they will advise you.
What if I miss an exam due to ill health?
If you are ill on the day of the exam, you must contact your Hub on the day of the exam. You must go the doctor (either on campus or your home doctor) and obtain a medical certificate covering your absence from your examination.
What can I do about exam stress?
The Learning Enhancement team in DOS provide both detailed guidance on preparing for exams and a guide on 'Exam Stress'
I require alternative exam arrangements: how should I arrange these?
These arrangements will be approved by the Dean of Students' Office so it is very important to make contact with them as soon as possible. This may involve making an appointment to see a member of staff in the Disability Team located in DOS
I receive alternative arrangements for my examinations. Should I follow the information provided on the main timetable?
If your individual arrangements have been approved (by Dean of Students office), then the information will be passed through to the Assessment Office who ensure that the necessary arrangements are made and displayed on your individual timetable.
Do I need to register each exam for alternative arrangements?
No, once a concession is approved it will be clearly stated as either for the current academic year or for the duration of the course. The concession will be automatically applied to the examinations which occurred in the relevant academic year that the concession covers.
On the day of my exam who should I report to regarding alternative arrangements?
You should report to the location indicated on your timetable
As part of alternative arrangements, when will my rest periods be?
This will be dependent on your individual concession and advice will be given by Dean of Students
As part of alternative arrangements, what IT facilities will be available to me?
This will be dependent on your individual concession and advice will be given by Dean of Students
I have been ill and would like this to be taken into consideration with regard to my exams, What do I need to do?
The student needs to submit medical evidence to the relevant Hub, so that this can be taken into account by the School’s Board of Examiners when they meet for Examination Boards.  If a student has an accident just before an examination which inhibits their ability to sit an examination, for example a broken writing arm before/during examinations, a hospital note should be submitted to the Hub to enable them to obtain a concession for individual arrangements for relevant exams (eg scribe or extra time etc) or a delayed sit
What must I do if I am unable to attend an exam due to religious observance?
If you receive your exam timetable and cannot attend, speak to you Adviser or Dean of Students immediately. It is essential that you let your Adviser know if you will be missing timetabled work because of a religious festival.
What is Reassessment/ Delayed First Sit?
Reassessment/delayed first sits take place in August. Delayed first sit is for students who either could not undertake examination in the assessment period due to medical/personal reasons or failed a module due to circumstances which were brought to the attention of the Board of Examiners after the assessment period. Reassessment, in most cases, is for students who failed assessment modules that they are required to pass.
Where can I find my resit exam timetable?
Your examination timetable is displayed on e:Vision (in a similar way to your teaching timetable).
If I have passed my exams, how do I register for the next year of my degree?
During the summer months (August time) you will be sent an email informing you that you should register online for your next stage of study.
What do I do if I fail, or was ill during, the reassessment?
If you have been ill for a reassessment examination etc, and you have appropriate supporting evidence, the Hub will request a concession for you to take your examination(s) at a later date. This may be that you will have to take a period of intercalation (i.e., break in studies) until the next examination period, but the Hub will advise you of this. The concession will be subject to approval.


FAQ's General
I need a letter as proof of student status, for renting accommodation, visa purposes, etc...where do I get this from?
Go to your Hub for 'confirmation of study' letters or see the Forms pages to download a letter request form
If my contact details change, who do I need to inform?
You need to update your details on e:Vision immediately. Failure to notify a change in address is a breach of the University regulations.
How do I get my official UEA transcript?
All students are issued with one free copy of their transcript upon completion of their degree. Further copies may be provided but there will be a standard charge.
Where do I get my council tax certificate?
At the beginning of each academic year the University issues a Council Tax Exemption Certificate to each eligible new student. Returning students can print their own Council Tax Exemption Certificate on their e:Vision home page.
I need to be away from university during term time, do I need permission?
Leave of absence during a semester needs the prior permission of the Head of the relevant School.
I am interested in postgraduate study, who do I need to speak to?
You can speak to your adviser in the first instance and the relevant course director. You will then need to apply through the postgraduate admissions office
Im a new part-time student, can I also do online registration and online enrolment?
Yes you can register online. however you will need to use a paper form for module enrolment.
I have my own email address, do I need to use my UEA email?
Yes, all communications from the University come through your UEA email. The general student regulations require that you must check this daily or at least every 48 hours. This also applies to your student pigeon holes.
Who deals with financial issues?
If a student has debts to the University, they must go to the Cashiers Office in Registry reception. Financial hardship issues are dealt with by the Dean of Students' Office.
I have lost my campus card, what should I do?
The Library issues replacement campus cards, on payment of a fee.
I have left/lost something, where will it be handed in?
All items found in any UEA room will be sent through to the UEA Lost Property Office. The Lost Property Office is located in the UEA Post Room on Floor 01 of the Arts Building.
What kinds of positions are available to me if I want to represent my school?
All Schools advertise early in the academic year for students to take up places on Committees within the School, e.g., Undergraduate Affairs Committees, School Committees such as Teaching Committees, Staff-Student Liaison Committee. Details can be found in School handbooks.
Are there prizes for academic achievements?
