What Our Undergraduates Say
Our graduates are highly employable and go into an extremely wide range of professions. Some use their language skills all day everyday, some from time to time, others rarely but they all have excellent communication skills and highly developed intercultural sensitivity.

"I chose UEA because I instantly felt at home here, and I chose LCS because I wanted to turn my love of languages into something academically substantial.
UEA is wonderful… but LCS is even better!"

Before going to uni, I didn't want to leave home - then I came to UEA and I fell in love with the uni, campus and city... I'd found my second home.
I chose UEA because the campus as well as the language school seemed to be really friendly. As the school is so small, your classmates become your friends really quickly. There is also a great student life and a brilliant city a short bus ride away.
Norwich is amazing, it is small but has so much to offer. The campus has everything you need, shops, a bar, a nightclub, cafes and more situated in vast parkland with a lake.
The language school is just great. The staff were lovely - I learnt so much but had a lot of fun too. The teachers push you to achieve your goals but are really supportive.
I really feel UEA will be in my heart forever and I will miss it so much. Enjoy every minute because it will go so quick!

My time at UEA has been a mixture of hard work, fun, a bit of stress and new experiences.
I am really pleased that I chose UEA to study French. In my first year I felt that my level wasn't going to be good enough, but the aid of the lecturers and the organisation of the year helped us all reach a similar level from which to progress.
I spent my year abroad teaching in a primary school just outside of Paris, and it was undoubtedly my most challenging and rewarding experience to date. I was forced out of my comfort zone, I embarrassed myself thoroughly on several occasions, and made lots of friends (mostly under the age of 10).
When I came back in my 4th year I was expecting it to be the hardest of all, but in fact what I'd learnt during my time in France made me feel that I was getting even more out of my courses and really consolidating information that had sunk in the previous year.
Leaving UEA is a very strange feeling, I am already nostalgic and sad to leave but at the same time ready to move on. My advice to any future French students is work consistently, eat well and enjoy Norwich because you will love it!"

Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever imagined that taking French at GCSE would one day lead me to take part in a French play in front of an audience . I enjoyed the challenge and the opportunity to take part in Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, a French comedy written by such an influential playwright as Moliere. It has been such a rewarding and exciting experience not only for my French but also my confidence. I would advise any student with even the slightest desire to be in a play to get involved…you will not regret it!
The post exam freedom has now been replaced by job hunting, I am eager to get out into the world and see what I am capable of.

I chose UEA because I instantly felt at home here, and I chose LCS because I wanted to turn my love of languages into something academically substantial. I knew from the first visit that LCS was the place to do this. It was the perfect combination of a small school community within a large and vibrant campus that made the transition from A-levels so easy.
The close-knit community in LCS means that you get a level of pastoral care and even friendship between students and staff that you wouldn't get in a larger school. The standard of teaching has been excellent and the support that I have received throughout my four years - and particularly during my year abroad - has been absolutely first class. I couldn't fault it.
I am really grateful to everyone who has made my experience what it was, all of the staff have been fantastic, and I've also made friends with so many different people I never thought I would. I can say without exaggeration that my time at LCS has made me the person I am today and I feel well prepared to go out into the ‘real' world now that my time is over. UEA is wonderful…but LCS is even better!

From a young age I have always wanted to speak another language and live abroad, and I have fulfilled my dream! Without a doubt my year abroad has been one of the best experiences of my life to date, I spent time studying in the beautiful city of Lyon and equally in a tiny Spanish town where everyone knows each other - Ciudad Real, quite a culture shock when you come from London!
Speaking from experience, the sky is the limit at UEA; during my years, I jointly ran a Spanish & Latin American society (which we won an award for!) and with a small team also organised a departmental Ball. All of these experiences have been attractive to future employers, have put me in good stead for my future and have secured me a job before even graduating!
However, none of this would have been possible without my tutors; whose doors are always open.
Summing up my experience at UEA in one paragraph is almost impossible. LCS is not just a languages department where you come to learn and develop; it is a community where invaluable experiences are made and lifelong friends are gained.
Enjoy your time at UEA! It will be an experience you will never forget!
