Working as an English-language teaching assistant
Assistants are appointed through the British Council on our recommendation. There are 550 posts in Spain at secondary and primary schools, and state language schools. The period of appointment is from 1 October to 31 May and assistants work 12 hours per week. Candidates must be native English speakers.
If you are appointed through the Spanish Ministry of Education, you will be invited to a 2-day induction course in Spain in late September. Applying for an assistantship implies a strong commitment and is a form of contract.
Teaching assistants receive an allowance and in a few cases accommodation is provided by the school. They currently also receive an Erasmus grant and may be eligible for a tuition fee waiver.
If you choose this option, you will need to decide early in your second year as applications have to be at the British Council by 1 December.
