Module Descriptions
Lower Advanced: Autumn Code - LCSE4047A Spring Code (Continuation) - LCSE4048B
This course is suitable for people who already have a good command of English (Grade 5.5 IELTS or above / Low B2 CEF [Common European Framework]) but who feel they need to consolidate their current skills set in order to then improve those skills to reach a more competent level. This course will allow you to understand a wide range of demanding longer texts and recognise implicit meaning. You will practise speaking to increase your fluency and be able to communicate effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. You will learn how to produce clear, well-structured, detailed texts on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
Higher Advanced: Autumn Code - LCSU2OE1 Spring Code (Continuation) - LSCU20E2
This course is suitable for people who already have an advanced knowledge of English (Grade 6.0 IELTS or above / Strong B2 CEF [Common European Framework]) but would like to improve or consolidate their skills to reach a more competent level equivalent to 7.5 / 8.0 IELTS / C1 / C2 CEF. This course will allow you to understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. You will practise summarising information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. You will learn how to express yourself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.
This module will also look at cultural aspects of English and the dynamic nature of English as a global language.
