Work Placements
'Invaluable work experience, greater confidence in speaking and writing in French, a great year abroad!
'I gained improved communication skills and a satisfying feeling of having done a 9-5 and survived it!'
You may prefer to spend your time abroad in a work placement, or stage. This is desirable, though not obligatory, if you are taking Management Studies. The School already has good contacts with a number of firms but if you have a particular interest, we encourage you to look for a placement appropriate to your area of study and interests. Students are very enthusiastic about the benefits of working during their year abroad and find that the skills and experience they have acquired are invaluable when applying for jobs after graduating.
Salaries for stagiaires vary but are not usually very high. The low salary is counterbalanced by the enormous experience you would gain. In the Paris area, you might also receive 50% of the travel card (carte orange). Of course, if you can find a better paid job, that is fine, but you must ensure that you would be speaking French for at least 80% of your time and that you would be doing meaningful work. We issue a convention de stage which is signed by the Head of School and you receive a copy. The convention states the hours of work, your salary, and what you would be doing. You will also receive an Erasmus grant and may be eligible for a tuition fee waiver.
If you want to work during your time abroad, it is a School requirement that you make a back-up application to a French University. We can provide advice on this.
