Students might have come to UEA to learn about the languages and cultures of another country, but there’s often a new language and culture to be found on our own doorstep.
UEA’s Honorary Professor of Sociolinguistics, Peter Trudgill, has written some guidance for us on our very own ‘home’ language here in Norwich.
His Notes on ‘Talking Norwich!’ feature on LCS’s webpage at https://www.uea.ac.uk/lcs/talking-norwich, where those not yet versed in the local dialect and accent can learn how to get from ‘The Urt’ to ‘Ham’ and sample the local ‘bare’ without unnecessary misunderstanding.
At UEA, Professor Trudgill takes part in LCS’s Research Seminar Series and the School’s “Norwich City of Interculture” research project in 2011-12.
