New Japanese degrees available now
UEA is developing a centre of excellence in Japanese studies with the highest quality interdisciplinary research on Japan in Norwich. Thanks the establishment of the Yakult lectureship in Japanese language, the UEA has recently added Japanese to all its distinctive language degrees. Students interested in studying about Japan can access the wide range of expertise about Japan across the University and in the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures. UEA’s international reputation boosted by successful conference
UEA welcomed 70 delegates from the UK, Europe, Africa, Australasia and North America to the ‘Cross-cultural Pragmatics at a Crossroads II’ conference (CCP2) organised by the School of Language and Communication Studies at the end of June on the theme of linguistic and cultural representation across media. First Prize for LCS Student
Top prize in the 2011 student essay competition, based around the university's Live/Learn marketing campaign, has been won by Lori Gilbert, a part-time Masters student in the School of Language and Communication Studies. Read more

LCS students engaging with the community
During the spring semester second year students doing LCS language degree courses were involved in a series of workshops aimed at developing language learning materials to use with children in Norfolk schools, translating well known children's stories in to Spanish and creating games. Read more

Sacré Théâtre's first production of Molière for many years, 'Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme', was greeted with bumper audiences. The staff-student theatre company performs in French each year and their latest production played in the UEA Drama Studio for four nights at the end of March.
