Biography
Dr Giulio Pagani is Lecturer in Discourse and European Politics, jointly based in the School of Language and Communication Studies and the School of Political, Social and International Studies.
Giulio holds a first degree in Contemporary European Studies and a MA in Linguistics, Society and Culture from UEA, and went on to complete doctoral research in linguistics at Lancaster University.
Giulio previously worked in local government, gaining a professional diploma in the field of consumer protection, and fulfilling a number of professional and management roles in East Anglia and the South-West, including acting as a tutor and assessor for the national qualification scheme for trading standards officers.
He has taught at UEA since 2006, in the areas of linguistics, discourse analysis and communication, focusing on their applications in political studies. He also teaches modules on the European Union and UK local government.
Key Research Interests
His main fields of research include systemic-functional linguistics, social semiotics, multimodality and political discourse analysis, particularly in relation to the discourse and activities of public sector institutions in the UK and France.
