Online databases and journals

Online databases, datasets, and journals are copyright protected, and use of their content is subject to contracts between UEA the suppliers (site licences).

Often 'copying' is limited to single print-outs or the storing of selected items on disk for personal use only by those authorised to access the database. But in some cases the terms are a little more generous, Web of Science for example currently allows up to 25 print copies of a citation or an abstract to be made and distributed for ‘research or scholarship purposes’. Usually the terms and conditions governing use of the content of a database or dataset are provided online, so you can readily check on what is permitted.

There is no single central point through which all site licences are administered. Useful starting points are the Library, the IT and Computing Service (ITCS), or the copyright co-ordinator.
