The Intellectual Property Office is a comprehensive government-backed website on all aspects of IP, including patents.
The Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) site includes access to the CLARCS database, list of works/publishers not covered by its licences, and links to other useful sites.
Newspaper Licensing Agency (NLA) represents newspaper publishers and licences copying from UK national and local newpapers. The general terms of NLA licences are described at its website.
US Copyright Office site has a guide to US legislation and links to the US Copyright Act and the Copyright Clearance Center.
Mechanical Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) represents the recording industry and deals with copyright of sound recordings.
Performing Rights Society (PRS) represents composers, lyricists and music publishers.
Association of Learned & Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) represents academic publishers. Its website includes useful advice to authors.
Publishers' Association represents the UK publishing industry as a whole and jointly negotiates with the Higher Education community on a range of mutual interests.
Joint Information Services Committee (JISC) site has information on a wide range of intellectual property issues as they affect higher education, including a set of copyright guidelines.
Library Association (now CILIP) for updates on key copyright issues from the service provider perspective. The LA publishes guidelines on copyright directed at specific sectors – public libraries, HE and FE, business, etc.
Artists' Rights Society represents artists and assists in clearing copyright permissions.
Design and Artists Copyright Society (DACS) represents artists and assists in clearing copyright permissions; licences slide collections in educational establishments, including UEA.
Music Publishers Association (MPA) has published a Code of fair practice agreed between composers, publishers and users of printed music, which can be viewed on the MPA's website. A print copy of is held by the copyright co-ordinator.
