What’s happening?
A number of changes are being made to the way your documents folders are organized, and the location where some of your user profile data is stored. When will this take place?
The main rollout to users will take between 22nd October and 14th December 2012, with a small number being done each day. Migration ScheduleWhy are you doing this?
Making these changes should reduce the amount of time it takes your computer to login each day, as well as allowing our customers who logon to both Windows PC’s and Apple Macs to have a more sensibly arranged file store. How will this affect me?
Just before your file store and profile is due to updated you will receive an email. This will advise you that you are being migrated that evening (after 6pm), and you will need to ensure that you logout or shutdown your computer overnight. The following day when you login for the first time you may notice a slight delay while the changes that have been made overnight take effect. This slight delay will only happen once, and the time it takes for your PC to login in future should be less than it was before the changes were made.
What else do I need to know?
If you have access to, or allow another user to access your personal file store (such as a PA or Deputy):
This functionality will need to be setup again after the changes have been made to your account. If you think this is likely to affect you – we recommend that you contact the IT Helpdesk now so that we can make arrangements in advance to have this access setup again quickly to minimize any disruption to you.If you access your personal files using an iPad App or have a manual drive mapping:
You will need to modify some of your settings, as the location in which your data is stored will have changed. If you think this is likely to affect you – we recommend that you contact the IT Helpdesk when you receive the second message; so that we can make arrangements for a technician to visit you as soon as possible after the changes to minimize any disruption. MobilEcho settings will update automatically but please ensure you are not using MobilEcho during the migration.
If you have NFS auto mount central file store on UNIX or Linux:
UNIX and Linux auto mount files need to be updated for those systems that mount central file store. For those users (mainly in the SCI faculty) that have scripts or programs that rely on the current file store mounts we will maintain existing NFS mounts and create links to new locations for the affected users. If you need to update your auto mount file with the new central file store NFS mounts, please contact the IT Helpdesk via email. If you use Pine or Alpine:
The 'Mail' folder will be migrated if it has been used in the last 3 months. This folder is normally only required by users using Pine or Alpine. In most users’ cases this data was migrated to Exchange.
