About EDINA Digimap

Digimap is an EDINA service that delivers Ordnance Survey Map Data to UK Higher Education. Data is available either to download to use with appropriate application software such as GIS or CAD, or as maps generated by Digimap online.

Digimap allows users to view and print maps of any location in Great Britain at a series of predefined scales. Advanced tasks that Digimap enables are:

• downloading map data for use, for example, in GIS software on a user's own desktop (needs to be on UEA network)
• advanced cartographic tasks, such as user-specified scale, combining datasets on a map, large format printing
• gazetteer functions on place names

Digimap has been available since January 2000, and UEA was among the first subscribers.

Who can Use it

The data is available for Teaching, Educational Research or Academic Research only. These are defined as:

• Teaching – use of the data solely for the purposes of giving instruction to students registered on officially recognised courses at an HEI as part of that officially recognised course.
• Educational Research – use of the data for research carried out by students in an HEI solely to complete their officially recognised courses of study including any project and fieldwork.
• Academic Research – use of the data for research carried out by an HEI by their own volition or for any other organisation to further a body of knowledge the results of which will be disseminated widely and without delay within the academic community and in the public domain. The research results will not be held for the exclusive information or use of the research sponsor or sponsors or in any way restricted from access to the academic community or the wider public.

Access

Access is available to all members of UEA via Personal Registration to Digimap (using Athens credentials)

NOTE:  Data download is only available via a UEA-networked machine

Resources Required

For most of EDINA Digimap you can use any recent web browser (e.g. MS Internet Explorer 3 or later, Netscape Navigator 3 or later). For EDINA Digimap Carto, you will need a Java-enabled browser.
