Q. What is network registration?
A. This is a website which assists network management by providing an online registration process. We require users to log in to demonstrate their eligibility for access to the system.

Q. Why must I register?
A. The university runs the network (like your internet service provider at home) and has a responsibility if illegal activity takes place from a university address. In addition when machines become infected with viruses, we need a simple way to track machines. For these reasons like most other organisations we require machines to be registered with a username and address.

Q. What can I register?
A. You can register any piece of computer equipment that has a web browser like the application you're using to view these web pages. You need a browser so that you can log in to the registration page and agree to the Terms and Conditions.

Q. How many things can I register - and what do I do if I need more registrations?
A.
Firstly, please be aware that you should only be registering equipment for your personal use.  The total number of registrations available is currently unlimited  If you want to unregister a device then please contact the IT Help Desk with details.

Q. What do I need to do?
A. Please ensure your machine has up-to-date OS patches and Anti-virus software before plugging into the network. This is because there are many viruses which use holes in unpatched operating systems and will infect your machine as soon as it is plugged in.

Q. What anti-virus software can I use?
A. You can use any anti-virus program which is kept up to date.

Q. What will happen?
A. The first time you plug into the network socket in your room, your browser should go to the page https://ueaipam.uea.ac.uk/ If this does not happen automatically you may need to type the address in yourself. You will see a prompt for your UEA username/password. You will be given your username/password when you register in your school, but it can be obtained from the IT Helpdesk on presentation of photographic identity eg passport, along with your student number (on your Accommodation offer letter).

If there are problems, please disconnect from the network to resolve these. This will free the network connection for somebody else and will mean that registration can take place more quickly.

Q. How quickly can I register?
A. Registration will take minutes if you have ensured that your machine is patched and that your anti-virus software is installed before you plug into the network. At the start of term many students will be registering, so there may be delays in the process. If so, please be patient and disconnect from the network if your registration fails.

Q. How long does my network registration last?
A. Network registration is reset just before the start of each academic year, which typically means within the first two weeks of September. We leave the registrations open over the summer to allow those undertaking re-takes access to on-line materials. If you're still a member of the University after this date then you're free to re-register your computer for another year.
