A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, creates a secure tunnel between a remote computer and the desired network, in our case the UDN (University Data Network).
This solution means that your remote computer will act, and have access to similar facilities, as when it is plugged in on campus. As such, items such as Exchange (for Outlook Email clients) and remote library journals will work.
You only need to use the VPN software on your home machine if you need to access resources on the UEA network that can't be accessed via the web.
