Elluminate is an online collaboration tool, it is available via Blackboard or as a stand-alone web solution. You can create real-time sessions or rooms to which participants are invited, whether they are internal or external to UEA.  Elluminate sessions can be used for a variety of purposes in teaching, research and administration as well as public and community engagement.

Live online teaching and meeting tools such as Elluminate, as becoming more and more popular in Higher Education.  These tools allow people to see and talk to each other online, they allow slides and vides and other content to be shown, they allow meetings to be recorded and played back later, amongst many other things.

Here are some examples of ways Elluminate sessions might be used:

• Virtual lectures/seminars
• Meeting room
• Mentoring
• Research groups (internal and external to UEA)
• Student group work
• Guest speakers
• Training and drop-in sessions
• Workshops, seminars and conferences
• Continuous Professional Development
• Public & Community engagement

 

Elluminate at UEA Launch Day

The Elluminate at UEA Launch day was held on 22nd April 2009 where two representatives from Elluminate ran 6 different sessions for UEA staff. See the Learning Technology @ UEA blog for more information about the advertised sessions.  The day itself was well attended with around 60 people coming to at least one session.

Elluminate at UEA Blackboard module

There is a Blackboard module to support activity at UEA.  It provides information about the progress of the Elluminate pilot at UEA, set up & first time use, training, support, links, case studies and the opportunity to experiment with Elluminate away from your real modules and organisations

To enrol on this module: Login to the Portal -> Select Academic tab at the top of the screen -> in the Module Search panel (underneath the 'My Modules' list) type 'elluminate' -> select 'Enrol' next to the module entitled Elluminate at UEA -> click submit when the self enrolment page displays -> Click OK and you will be directed to the Elluminate module -> The Elluminate module is now added to your listed of modules.

Training and Demonstrations

Demonstrations - we are happy to demonstrate Elluminate for you, your colleagues, group or school.  The demonstrations can be delivered live online via Elluminate or in a face to face setting.  There are also recorded orientation sessions both on the Elluminate web site and the Elluminate module in Blackboard.

Training - we are able to offer 2 hands-on training workshops.  They are two-part courses, each part being 1hr 30mins.  Part one is in the CSED IT Training Room (Lib 02.01) and part two will take place at your own computer.

There is an always open Elluminate room where you can drop-in to discuss any Elluminate queries with Jo Bruce or Andy Mee.  Specific drop-in sessions will be advertised and at other times please email us to meet you in the room as it cannot be continuously staffed.  This can be access via the Elluminate module in Blackboard.

Elluminate has a good support area within its site with the facility to submit tickets as well as a UK support number to ring if you can't get the answers you need.
