Apply for access to IT Services

New students

New students apply for their IT account as part of the online registration task before they arrive at the University. You will be informed about the online registration task by email.

New staff

Once UEA Human Resources have processed your signed contract please download a campus card application form and submit it to the Library. Full information on how to complete the form and when and where to submit it is provided on the form.

IT Accounts

What is an IT Account?

Your IT Account username and password will be needed to to use pcs, unix computers, email, and other services which are limited to access by members of the University or to individuals or groups within it. Connecting to the Wireless network (Eduroam)

This is the preferred wireless network for those attending UEA  or visiting the university from an eduroam site.. Details of how to set up your equipment including mobile devices to use this network is available via section N4 of the networking helpsheets . This system requires your initial connection to be authenticated before you can proceed and use the Internet.  Performance is rate-limited to 8Mbit/s per device.

Connecting to the Wireless Network (BT OpenZone)

Note that there is also a BT OpenZone wireless network for those without a UEA username and password. This is a pay-per-use system for visitors to the University and not envisaged for use by staff or students. Read more



Remote access from off-campus - VPN Network

The VPN network enables users to have access to similar facilities on a computer off-campus as when it is plugged in on campus. This gives users access to service such as Exchange (for Outlook Email clients) and library journals. Read more

Telephony

The telephony infrastructure, based around a pair of Siemens ISDXL exchanges in the Estates Building for the Norwich site, provides over 3000 standard analogue lines to the majority of the Norwich campus as well as a number of VoIP extensions to remote sites. This is now being replaced by VoIP handsets linked to a Siemens HiPath8000 (OpenScape) exchange - the migration started in 2009. The OpenScape solution is already in operation for UEA London users. Read more
