The University provides a mailing list service via its Microsoft Exchange system. Exchange offers a simple but secure mailing list service that can support UEA email addresses only.
The existing Mailman system is being replaced by Exchange where possible during June. Requests for lists on Mailman are no longer being accepted.

From Monday August 13 2012 a new naming convention has been applied to the University’s automatically generated mailing lists. This is to add consistency to clearly identify the group of people a mailing list is provided for. Read more

Removal from the list is not confirmed via email but normally be completed within five minutes.

List request
To request a new mailing list the following information must be provided to the IT Helpdesk:- The list name
- The preferred email address
- If the list should appear in the Outlook Global Address List (GAL)
- Who should be able to send to the list - default is to list members only
- Names of list owner(s)
Managing list membership
List owners can manage their list membership via the University Identity Management System at https://spot.uea.ac.uk/guiA list mangement user guide is available here: Mailing List Management
Unsubscribing from a list
Any user can unsubscribe from a non-mandatory exchange mailing list by logging into https://spot.uea.ac.uk/gui and selecting:- Group Details - this is located on the top bar
- Select "Active Directory Group" from the dropdown list
- Select "Remove" using the button displayed against the list name in the "Remove Membership" column

Mailing lists with externals
If a mailing list is required with external (i.e. non @uea.ac.uk) subscribers a list can be requested via the external Jiscmail service. Any list request must meet the service criteria athttp://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/groups/startagroup/criteria.html
