Information for hosts

The UEA Summer Internship Programme offers organisations the opportunity to secure a 2nd year UEA undergraduate student to work with them 32-37.5 hours per week for 4-8 weeks during July and August.

Internships are a proven way to get help with a project or launch a new initiative. UEA internships are also easy to set up, with minimal paperwork, and support is available throughout the internship.

The UEA Summer Internship programme is currently offering a 40% subsidy on the cost of the student’s wage to SMEs, but availability is limited and they will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

Costs

The Summer Internship Programme provides work experience and personal development for a student while providing benefits and adding value to the organisation. In recognition of their contribution, the student receives a monthly allowance which is administered by the University.

The tables below show example costs for Summer Internships of varying duration. The interns are legally entitled to holiday during the internship period.

The hours of leave entitlement, which include public holidays, are outlined in the examples in Table 1. However, the company and the student have the option to waive the holiday entitlement. In this situation the company buys out the holiday entitlement at an additional cost, as outlined in Table 2.

Interns are paid monthly in arrears therefore these costs are for guidance only as some variation will apply. We have endeavoured to show the maximum cost that would be incurred by the host in each example.
