Graduate Internship Case Studies

The Graduate Internship Programme has re-launched as a result of the success of the original Project Evolve Graduate Internship Programme.

Over the duration of the original programme we placed more than 225 graduates within local organisations and we were overwhelmed with positive feedback from both organisations and graduates. To demonstrate the impact the programme has had on those participating, we have compiled several Graduate Internship case studies:

	Property118 assist graduates in getting a foot on the career ladder In stopgap employment and getting no-where fast with job applications, recent graduates Jack Philips and Brendan Granger, both originally from Gt Yarmouth, were looking for an organisation to take an informed risk and provide them with an opportunity to prove what they were capable of. 	From intern to Design Studio Executive Liz Rayner recently undertook a 12 week internship with Woolf Designs, who are a Norwich based graphic design company that provide marketing and design solutions for their customers for everything from banners and stationary, to websites and annual reports. 	Sadie found a creative outlet for her skills with regional media business Archant Sadie Jennings was lacking a clear direction after graduation, when she secured a Digital Marketing internship with Archant. 	Internship Project adapted to play to Martin's strengths Gary Williams, Director of the E-tech Group and founder of Marine East, found University of East Anglia graduate Intern Martin Lippiatt through the Graduate Internship Programme in February 2011 and received an OPITO subsidy to help cover the costs. 	Recent graduate goes from barista to relationship manager in 12 weeks After graduating from the University of East Anglia, Justine found herself flitting from the retail to the service industry. Even though she was promoted to a key-holder after three months of her role as a Barista, she was determined to find something more related to her career plans which would lead to better long-term prospects for her. 	Graduate embraces BeWILDerwood’s values for HR projects BeWILDerwood, the award winning wild and imaginative adventure park secured Carl Trett, a recent Law graduate from the University of East Anglia, to assist the management team to develop and embed their human resources function. 	Oliver helps Computer Service Centre expand Computer Service Centre is a Norwich based company with a good reputation for IT service delivery and support. After expanding their offering by setting up a software department to provide bespoke software solutions for clients, they were looking for a graduate to help them establish this new service. 	Eleanor helps put Norwich on the map for tourists VisitNorwich is the destination marketing organisation for the Norwich area. A highly creative and entrepreneurial private/public sector partnership and non profit organisation whose sole focus is to promote and develop the destination and support its 240 member businesses through; collaborative marketing, research, information and business advice. 	Graduate helps tackle priority projects for Maze Media Trusted with working on Maze Media’s largest account, servicing the Adrian Flux brand, Computer Science graduate intern Jianping Tian developed a mobile website to fulfil the needs of customers who are on the move and also refreshed the existing Flux Babes website. 	Graduate helps keep crime down and interest up in Great Yarmouth Following the successful reduction in crime and increase in economic potential in Great Yarmouth, the Town Centre Partnership identified a need for recent graduate Nick Southey to assist them in the task of maintaining the town’s appeal. 	Graduate helps local funeral home reduce carbon emissions Rosedale Funeral Home in Diss has benefited from securing Charlene Wenn, a recent Environmental graduate, through the Graduate Internship Programme in order to help them cut their carbon emissions and develop a carbon neutral funeral. 	Rachel brings fresh approach to Ecology Consultancy The Ecology Consultancy secured recent graduate Rachel Hobbs, an enthusiastic birder, to perform bird surveys of farmland habitats around Norwich during the nesting season. Rachel, a recent University of East Anglia graduate, successfully secured this internship and within a short period of time gained a vast amount of experience. Click here for full details.
	Sarah helps spread the word about internships Recent History graduate Sarah Morris completed her degree at the University of East Anglia last year. Following her graduation, she remained unsure as to what she should do next. However, Sarah noticed that the Project Evolve internship team were looking for an intern to promote the benefits of the Graduate Internship Programme through a large scale event aimed at recent graduates and final year students. 	Graduate working in the energy sector For the past 12 weeks Jack Golding has been working on an internship at OPITO - The Oil and Gas Academy. Jack was secured by OPITO to support a steering group in undertaking a strategic research project. Jack has been assessing the scale of jobs growth potential and associated training needs of the energy sector in Norfolk and Suffolk to 2031, with particular reference to oil and gas, nuclear and offshore wind. 	Graduate Ruth becomes a full-time asset to Archant as a result of the intern programme Ruth Barton was secured by Tim Youngman, head of digital marketing, to work within the marketing section of the regional digital development team. During her 12 week placement Ruth was responsible for researching potential business opportunities and writing up recommendations within reports. Tim said “In a short space of time working with us Ruth has analysed data on new market opportunities and provided thought provoking reports and business plans for new areas of opportunities for Archant. She has also worked on creative marketing campaigns, an area she clearly enjoys and wants to develop. Her enthusiasm, attention to detail and quality of her output has led us to offer Ruth a full time role within Archant.” Click here for full details.

	Graduate Intern thrives in the local brewing industry Brendan Moore the chairman of East Anglian Brewers Cooperative approached Project Evolve’s internship team with an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate. He had a vision for the Cooperative to promote the concept of ‘East Anglian Beer’ to encourage tourism, tasting, ale trials and to raise people’s enthusiasm for local beers. 	Intern updates systems in local brewery University of East Anglia graduate Will Kelly secured a 10 week internship with Iceni Brewery situated on the edge of the Thetford Forest in the Breaklands area of Norfolk. Will was tasked with upgrading and improving the efficiency of the accounting system and began by transferring the customer and supplier details from one system to the other. He implemented a unique, but intuitive product coding system and inputted the opening stock figures to ensure accurate reporting. Click here for full details.
	Jennifer’s proactive approach to internship programme Recent graduate Jennifer Denby identified White Digital Media as a business that she would like to work for and gain experience with. By proactively approaching the business and informing them about the Project Evolve internship programme, she was proving to the business that she was an enthusiastic, proactive and dedicated graduate genuinely interested in working for their organisation.
