Hey!
I am Abbas and I’m the Pakistani Student Ambassador at University of East Anglia. I am a 2nd year Undergraduate studying Actuarial Sciences. My job as the International Student Ambassador is to assist the international students, particularly Pakistani students, throughout their time at UEA, starting from the Admission Process until arriving at UEA and during your entire academic career.
I arrived in UK after completing my A-levels from Karachi in 2011 to study Actuarial Science and there are multiple reasons why I chose UEA. Primarily because UEA has a strong, industry oriented Actuarial course on offer which is taught by practicing Actuaries from Aviva Insurance [based in Norwich]. However, another key reason for preferring UEA was the amount of support this University offers. I can assure you all that as you progress with your admission process, you shall realise that UEA actually invests time and effort to assist the overseas students in every possible way. You’ll see invitations to attend seminars, to meet ambassadors or if you have any concern at any point during your application you can always get in contact with one of us and trust me, we won’t rest before satisfying you! =).
This culture of support extends to every member of East Anglian Fraternity and I was surprised to see the amount of help you receive from your lecturers, peers, friends, etc. In essence, you’ll get the taste of British Education in a progressively productive learning environment.
UEA is indeed a prestigious institution we are looked up to for our research based approach to education. We are ranked among top 1% of the universities over the world and 18th best in UK with many of our schools, such as Pharmacy, Nursing and Environmental Sciences, rated best within UK. UEA places a great deal of emphasis on student experience and this is evident from our performance in the WhatUni surveys where we have been ranked best for last 5 consecutive years.
If you consider Norwich, it has been voted as one of World’s best small cities by Times Magzine. Norfolk has also been titled as the safest place in UK, and indeed from a Pakistani student’s perspective this is tough to believe but trust me once you come here, you’d have no trouble in using your phone while in the town or near your house! =P
Furthermore, you might have already explored about the Islamic Centre on Campus therefore you can celebrate all the festivals and get a good meal every now and then with guaranteed ‘Samosaas’ during Ramadan for free at Islamic Centre, but you might be surprised to know that there is a closely knit Pakistani Community here in Norwich who are more than happy to help you whenever you need them. We are not huge in number but we are well connected so you can always expect to have a small gathering discussing Pakitan’s politics in the square! ;-)
Anyhow there is a lot more for you to explore here so play around and find out or get in touch with me and I’ll help you with any questions you have. So, I am looking forward to talk to you and soon see you here at UEA and when you come here don’t forget to ask me about throwing a welcome party with spicy desi food!
If you have any questions you can email me at Pakistanstudents@uea.ac.uk
Hi! I am Umar,
I am a PhD student studying in the school of Computing Sciences. My studies at UEA, Norwich are sponsored by UST-Bannu through its Faculty Development Program and partly by UEA, under its international scholarship program. UEA is marked as one of the best Universities in UK for research and students satisfaction. UEA is located in Norwich; one of the most medieval cities in Europe. Norwich is a mix of medieval and modern trends of today. City Centre is located in old walled city (dated back in 1300/1400), whose remains are preserved. Norwich is called city of churches that hosts 56 medieval churches of old city.
UEA provides excellent facilities to students. It hosts world class academic, research and sports facilities. Academic, research and administrative staff is very cooperative and work hard to facilitate the community. Competitive research environment is provided to prepare researchers for cutting edge research. Research is conducted by well known researchers in their respective areas in collaboration with Norwich Research Park and other national and international organizations. Library is equipped with latest books, journals and research material. Researchers have access to national and international online journals. Well furnished accommodation with 24hrs IT services is available to students on its greener campus. Its property includes a beautiful lake and a forest, with an extreme beautiful track to walk around.
Lecture theatres, seminar rooms equipped with modern gadgets, comfortable accommodation and religious centres definitely fascinates every student who comes here. I am enjoying my life and study at UEA Norwich, being a safe and ideal location for studies and living. I love its greenery, and adventurous environment.
I hope you may have a great time and experience, being a student at UEA, Norwich.
I am grateful to those who recommended me to join UEA. School of Development Studies of UEA is getting recognition in development world due to its eminent faculty, dynamic researchers, excellent course of study and above all this is the home of Overseas Development Group (ODG). After getting the most prestigious British Chevening Scholarship I decided to study Masters in Development Studies. I came here in September 2007 with an aim to learn the latest trends in development and to share my thoughts with counterparts in UK and from different parts of the world so that I can do something meaningful for the marginalized communities in developing countries particularly my own country. Living and study here in diversified environment I feel that my dream is going be realized.
Lectures, seminars, workshops, group discussions with people having diversified experiences, huge library archives social gathering carves entirely new avenues in our thoughts at UEA.
Lecture theatres, seminar rooms equipped with modern gadgets, comfortable accommodation and religious centres definitely fascinates every student who comes here, while I am immensely inspired by the gesture of entire Norwich city where UEA is based. No doubt when you will come here you will fall in love with Norwich and UEA like me.
Hi, my name is Said Khalid Shah. I am a PhD (Computer Science) student at UEA. I am doing my PhD under the Faculty Development Program-2007 of University of Science and Technology Bannu, NWFP, Pakistan. I also got a scholarship of £4000 from UEA, which enable my dream of study at UEA true, because without this it was not possible for me to pay all the fee.
Studying at UEA is very challenging and everything is up to date. UEA has a very rich and excellent environment for research and quality education plus experienced lecturers. Labs are well equipped and furnished. It is among the top 20 universities in UK. The university also provide other facilities like sports (University’s Sportspark), up-to-date movies at the Lecture theatre, sight-seeing around the Broad (Lake behind UEA) and more. Norwich is very lovely and safe place for living in UK .The people of Norwich are very cooperative and friendly. So as an International Student, I think it is a safe place for living and study.
If you have any enquiries about UEA and Norwich, please feel free to contact me.
I, Sadaqat Ali Bangash, am a postgraduate student at Norwich Business School, University of East Anglia UK. After my MBA from Pakistan I was much ambitious to study at a university of repute in UK. GOD gave me the opportunity to study at one of the top ranked UK University, UEA. My studies at UEA is sponsored by University of Science & Technology Bannu Pakistan.
Also I feel pleasure to say that I am awarded a “University of East Anglia International Scholarship” which is worth £2000/year for three years. I am thankful to the UEA for sponsoring part of my studies.
Situated at the outskirts of Norwich, the UEA campus is a calm and quiet place suitable for a study environment. It is at a small distance from the Norwich city centre. You will find almost anything you need right at the campus, a large food shop, a post office, banks, pharmacy, news & travel agents, bookshops and many more. UEA has a rich and diverse population - from the undergraduates, to postgraduates students of different ages, from countries across the world, and with a wide range of backgrounds, qualifications and experience. UEA is ranked among the top three universities in UK for student satisfaction.
UEA provide its students particularly international students accommodation facility at the campus For me it is a great experience to live with friendly people from different cultures. I soon feel at home here. You can find any time a friend to share with your views and problems. Also there is a coordinator at each residential building to ask for help. I find UEA accommodation an excellent living place I have ever thought of.
UEA makes a significant contribution to the academic, cultural and business life of the city as well as the whole country. UEA graduates easily find their jobs at market.
UEA particularly Norwich business School has highly qualified well experience teaching faculty. Faculty staff work in departments where the research is rated as internationally or nationally excellent. UEA staff include research leaders who are renowned for their innovative thinking in their research areas. You can get an excellent and friendly supervision facility for your doctoral study at UEA.
Other facilities like library, internet access, spirited and pro-active Students' Union, the accommodation etc. are I think second to none. There is a sportspark, drama centre, play grounds and many more. Life at UEA is so enjoying.
