Your WorldView wins Communicator of the Year award

'Your WorldView’ a CBA [Commonwealth Broadcasting Association] project has received major global recognition by winning the Nexus Commonwealth Communicator of the Year 2013 Award.

The UEA based team received the award in a ceremony at the end of June. The award recognises innovation in communications, especially projects that connect new audiences across the Commonwealth and beyond.

The Nexus judging panel praised Your WorldView, recognising that although all nominations were strong the reach and impact of the project, together with its innovative use of modern technology, provided young people with a powerful global platform reaching the widest possible audience.

Your WorldView is an online platform showcasing short films from around the world, while providing funding and opportunities for global filmmakers. As a sister project of WorldView, a project which seed-funds long-form documentaries, Your WorldView has grown in its international reach and popularity since its launch in 2011. The project hosts screenings and funding rounds in order to support undiscovered talent and allows people to tell their own stories about issues that affect them.

While there are many online platforms showcasing short films, Your WorldView is unique in being part of the CBA’s network of broadcasters, enabling new and emerging film makers to showcase their work to commissioners  in 54 countries. The project also has unparalleled partnerships with filmmakers, broadcasters and international partners from WorldView  offering mentorship, support and recognition. WorldView and Your WorldView were brought to the UEA’s DEV department by alumna Sally-Ann Wilson, her aim was to ensure that the projects would be rooted in the development community.

With support from Head of Department Dr Steve Russell, and working with students on the MADIP module under the supervision of Dr Martin Scott, Your WorldView continues to bring together global voices using online technology to offer more opportunities to individuals around the world, showcasing global stories through film.
