Research Seminar: Integration of humanitarian & development actions
Today Wednesday 30th January
3.30pm
ARTS 01.02
Jeremy Loveless (Freelance Consultant) speaks on
'Integration of humanitarian and developmental actions'
He will argue that the distinction between development and emergency work does not reflect reality and is counter-productive to effective programmes. Governments, NGOs and UN agencies tend to compartmentalise their activities. Whilst this may have administrative advantages, it leads to poor impact. We need to re-orientate our approach and look at the situation through the eyes of the people who live in countries affected by crises. These people do not see life in sectors. A holistic approach will result in better impact over the long term and will improve governments' and agencies' emergency responses.
