External Research Associate Updates
Dr Juliet Colman (DEV 2013) has founded the NGO Security Women (www.securitywomen.org), launched at the UN Commission on the Status of Women in March 2016 with encouragement from UN women. She is currently (August 2016-) engaged in research into the diversity of recruitment policies of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) with fieldwork at the military bases in South Africa, for the SANDF Transformation Directorate. She is the permanent UN ECOSOC New York representative (2012-) of the UK National Alliance of Women's Organisations (NAWO) and will be at the UN this autumn to follow up on the implementation of SDG Sixteen (peaceful and inclusive societies) and to assess the National Plans to implement UN SCR 1325 on women, peace and security.
Dr Tony Colman (DEV 2013) is working this autumn in the America's Water policy team providing the briefing for the incoming President of the United States at the end of this year. The team is based at the Columbia Water Center in New York. He continues to work at the Earth Institute as adjunct senior research scientist on UN SDG Six (water access), Two (sustainable agriculture) and Thirteen (climate change adaptation). He is currently co-editing, with Professor Tony Allan (SOAS and KLC) and others, the OUP Handbook on Water, Food and Society to be published in 2017.
