This review focuses on the book Natural Resource extraction and Indigenous Livelihoods: Development Challenges in an Era of Globalization Edited by Emma Gilberthorpe and Gavin Hilson. Surrey: Ashgate Publishing, Ltd., 2014. This work presents evidence of the extractive industries impacts on indigenous communities and critically examines the role of culture in resource led-development, and the challenges of implementation through a collection of case studies in both developing and developed countries. The review presents a summary of the case studies according to different types of extractive industries and highlights the most relevant issues discussed by the authors.
