Biography

I started a PhD at the UEA DEV School in the autumn of 2007.  My topic is examining water resource management in the context of climate change and variability at the river basin level.  I will carry out enquires within the South Asian context, specifically the Krishna River Basin in south-central India.  I will be based at the International Water Management Institute during my one-year fieldwork period, commencing in November 2008.

Career

I have five years of professional work experience in the water and environmental sectors.  I worked for the Water Supply & Sanitation Collaborative Council (part of the WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland; the UK Environment Agency examining flood management issues in the Thames area; and as a water consultant for ITAD~Water Ltd, an international development consultancy based in Brighton, UK.  I have also carried consultancy work for the India Development Group NGO (a sister organisation of ITDG/Practical Action), for whom I developed an organisational water supply and sanitation strategy based on internal consultation and fieldwork in rural Uttar Pradesh, northern India.

Academic Background

I have a BSc (Hons) Geology degree from the University of Wales Aberystwyth; and a Master of Research (MRes) degree in Environment and Development (with distinction for research dissertation) from the University of Lancaster, UK.  For my MRes degree, I managed a three-month research project examining groundwater pollution and landuse practises at the catchment level. I was based at the Centre for Earth Science Studies in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.  The results of my research were published in the Kerala Science Congress Journal, January 2002.

I am funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council for the three-year duration of my PhD.
