Research interests include
- Use of “critical care skills” by ward based nurses.
- Utilisation of the skills laboratory in nurse education.
- Comparison between nurse education in the UK and the US.
- Health promotion, intensive care and the intensive care nurse.
Teaching Interests
My main areas of teaching include:
- intensive care,
- high dependency,
- recovery,
- acute respiratory nursing,
- basic resuscitation and Advanced Life Support (ALS).
This teaching is for nursing students at pre and post registration level, with the ALS teaching involving the teaching and assessing of other health care professionals. I also act as an EBL facilitator.
To further support and facilitate clinical learning I maintain active links with 3 clinical practice areas at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and a GP practice.Publications

External Activities and Indicators of Esteem
- Completed a Fulbright Teaching Exchange (August-December 2003) that enabled me to teach undergraduate student nurses at a Nursing School in Kansas, USA
- Member of the Anglian Regional Committee of the British Association of Critical Care Nurses (BACCN). Act to promote the profile of all aspects of critical care nursing within the region and more widely, including the organisation of regular study events throughout East Anglia
Professional Activities
- 2004-5 Lead a project in conjunction with critical care consultant nurses from two local NHS Trusts funded by Workforce Development Directorate to develop and deliver a competency-based learning pathway focusing upon critical care nursing for ward nurses.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibile for the effective management and utilisation of clinical placements for NAM students by strategic planning, decision-making and partnership working.
