The International Conference on Intelligent Data Engineering and Automated Learning (IDEAL) is an annual international conference dedicated to emerging and challenging topics in intelligent data analysis, data mining and their associated learning systems and paradigms. After successful recent events, IDEAL 2010 (Paisley), IDEAL 2009 (Burgos), IDEAL 2008 (Daejeon) and IDEAL 2007 (Birmingham), the 12th conference, IDEAL 2011, will be held on 7th – 9th September 2011 in the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK.

Norwich is a fine historical city characterised by its medieval Cathedral and Castle and surrounded by beautiful traditional English countryside and Broads. The city is about 100 miles from London, and 60 miles from Cambridge, and has its own international airport with convenient worldwide flight connections.

This conference provides an interesting opportunity and stimulating forum to present and discuss the latest theoretical advances and real-world applications in computational intelligence and intelligent data analysis. As in the past, the proceedings of IDEAL 2011 will be published by Springer in its Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series and authors are invited to submit their latest findings and research work to the conference.

The IDEAL 2011 Conference opened on Wednesday (07/09/11) at Thomas Paine Study Centre of UEA. All the plenary, parallel sessions and social events have been carried out smoothly and timely as planned. The delegates are impressed with the precise organisations of the conference, and enjoyed the conference and food. The conference has been successfully completed on Friday, 09/09/2011.

The organisation committee would like to thank the delegates for participating in the conference, the authors for presenting their papers and keynote speakers for giving exciting and inspiring plenary talks. The next year's conference IDEAL2012 will be held at Natal, Brazil.
