Overview
MACE ExhibitionAn innovative one year course, supported by Barclays, linking creativity with entrepreneurship with the key purpose of enabling artists to sustain their individual creative practice independently and in their own right. We are pleased to announce that the course, established in 2007, will be delivered from UEA London from September 2010.

This MA course is for Artists, Writers, Musicians, Composers, Performing Artists and recent Arts Graduates, who are in the process of establishing their careers in the fields of Visual Arts, Music and Literature or as practitioners in the context of cultural provision.

The course offers opportunities to showcase creative work and placements in London and the UK and is the only course of its kind in the UK that addresses the aspirations of a creative career in this manner. A unique feature of the course is the development of the student's own personal Arts Plan to navigate a professional creative future.

Taught sessions are held on two days per week to enable students to continue their creative practice. The course comprises 4 taught modules and a dissertation or creative equivalent.

The programme introduces an entrepreneurial concept to individual creative practice in tutorials and seminars and provides opportunities to showcase current work plus undertaking placements in arts or business organisations. During the course all students will develop an individual artistic or personal plan to guide their creative work in future. The course experience is further enlivened by challenging debates and lectures on radical ideas and contemporary issues by key commentators and policy makers. Assessment is based on 8 pieces of coursework, the arts plan and a final dissertation or creative project/practical work/performance with a contextualised commentary.

The MA in Creative Entrepreneurship explores the relations between creativity and entrepreneurship in order to support the contemporary artist, enabling arts practitioners to examine their direction, develop creative ideas and new ways to sustain their own artistic vision in their own right addressing the need to maintain creative independence and embrace risk. Students will acquire relevant knowledge, key skills and experience linked to innovation and resourcefulness in order to realise an enterprising strategy and imaginative work plan for individual creative survival.

The MA is flexible and responsive to student needs through an extensive programme supported by over 20 specialist visitors, reflecting the aspirations of each cohort of students. The course explores the connections between creativity and entrepreneurship, defining the artist as a creative entrepreneur who is able to sustain independent arts practice in the light of 21st-century challenges present in a complex world bordered by culture, politics, entertainment, media and education.

The course enables arts practitioners to examine their direction and develop new ideas and ways to sustain their own artistic vision, in its own right and for its own sake. It also explores the relations between creativity and entrepreneurship in order to support the contemporary artist, and addresses the need to maintain creative independence and integrity, avoid compromise and embrace risk. Students will acquire relevant knowledge, key skills and experience linked to innovation and resourcefulness in order to realise an enterprising strategy and imaginative work plan for individual creative survival and new creative leadership.
