There are a wide range of Schools at UEA that welcome applicants for research degrees, including the awards of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Master of Science (MSc) by Research. Some Schools also offer PhDs involving elements of practical creativity, such as the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing's Creative and Critical Writing PhD, and the School of World Art Studies and Museology's PhD in Professional Practice. The creative and critical PhD
In the late 1980s UEA pioneered a new type of PhD (Doctor of Philosophy), blending academic study into a creative discipline or theme with the actual creation of a work of art, enabling postgraduates to study the very process of creativity. UEA was in the forefront of the development of PhDs in Creative Writing: the Creative and Critical Writing PhD (for more information please click here). Many leading writers have also held fellowships at UEA, including David Lodge, Peter Reading, Michèle Roberts, Ali Smith, Bernadine Evaristo, Helon Habila, Paul Muldoon, Alison Fell and Paul Bailey.
