HIV UEA is supporting the following SIDA funded programme: ‘Fisheries and HIV/AIDS in Africa – investing in sustainable solutions’. The programme will strengthen the capacity of people and agencies in Africa to develop practical and sustainable solutions to enhance the contributions of fish and fisheries to economic and human development in Africa. In June 2008 Dr Steve Russell and Dr Rachel Grellier (ODG Associate) ran a research training workshop in Lusaka, Zambia, to develop and strengthen the research proposals accepted for the programme, and thereby enable researchers to deliver their research work to the highest possible standard. Sessions were run on research questions, design and methods; the policy relevance of research; key ethical issues to consider; guidance on qualitative research design, and data analysis; and guidance on participatory research methods.
The School of International Development has also a growing number of research students working on HIV/AIDS questions. The School also runs relevant Masters programmes in Gender Analysis in International Development and International Social Development, and a more research-focused Masters of Research in International Development Studies (MRes). The School has also started offering a new Masters unit on Health and Development - which covers a range of health and health policy topics including HIV/AIDS, running for 12 weeks during the spring semester.
The Schools of Medicine, Health Policy and Practice and Allied Health Professionals also offer relevant public health and health economics programmes.
