The HIV and Development Group (HIV UEA) consists of researchers and consultants at UEA who share an interest in the ways development settings and processes influence the course of the epidemic, and how HIV/AIDS in turn influences a range of development processes at micro-, sectoral- and macro-levels.
- Risk, susceptibility and vulnerability to HIV/AIDS
- The socio-economic impact of HIV/AIDS
- Pro-poor policy and practice
The strengths that HIV UEA applies to the three themes are a multi-disciplinary and development approach founded on a critical mass of expertise located across the School of Medicine, Health Policy and Practice, the School of International Development and the School of Allied Health Professions.
HIV UEA’s strength is also based on its specialised skills, including poverty, livelihood and vulnerability analysis, gender analysis, health sector and social protection research, and expertise in the agricultural and fishing sectors. Given its multi-disciplinary make-up HIV UEA can also apply a range of research skills such as quantitative, qualitative and participatory methodologies, and also technical skills like monitoring and evaluation and project management. HIV UEA has strong collaborative links with Southern organisations and development agencies.
