Employability Bursaries for History Undergraduates

The School of History will be soon launching new Employability Bursaries, totalling £25,000 per year, to assist undergraduates in their career development.

Full details of the new Employability Bursaries will be announced later in the year. The intention is that this money will be available to assist undergraduates in gaining internships in businesses, commerce, non-profit groups and organisations, government departments or international bodies.

In the modern labour market graduates with work experience are more desirable to employers. Research also demonstrates they attain higher level degree classifications than those graduates without such experience. Internships are a means for our undergraduates to develop employability by using the academic elements of a history degree in a practical setting.

Professor John Charmley, the Head of the School of History said ‘These new Employability Bursaries are an integral part of a wider internship programme in the School of History, which sees our undergraduates gaining invaluable experience with a wide variety of organisations, ranging from the European Parliament to the National Trust. Each element of the programme is designed to assist our graduates in succeeding in their careers after they graduate from UEA, and we will continue to expand these opportunities.’
