Candidates for research degrees are selected to ensure that only appropriately qualified and/or prepared students are admitted onto the research programme.

Only full applications are considered by the Graduate Studies Committee. Those deemed to meet entry criteria are short-listed for interview. All short-listed applicants will be interviewed, normally by a panel consisting of the potential supervisor/s, a senior member of academic staff from the supervisor's department or School of Study and chaired by the Associate Dean for Postgraduate Research (or nominee). Where possible, interviews will be in person, but when this is difficult to arrange, a skype interview will take place.

All admissions procedures will be conducted in accordance with the University's Equal Opportunities Procedures.

If the University agrees to admission, the Postgraduate Research Office will write to the successful applicant with a formal offer which specifies the research topic, supervisory arrangements, a date and place for  registration, the degree for which they will be enrolled, fees and funding arrangements, and any conditions which may need to be met prior to registration.

Candidates applying for specific funded studentships are welcome to contact the named supervisor directly for an informal visit of the laboratory/or other research facilities and to meet other staff and students within that research group.
