Academic Requirements
MSc by Research
a 2:1 degree in a professional field or a related health and social care area or equivalent.
MPhil and PhD
a 2:1 degree or above or a Master's degree in a professional field or a related health and social care area or equivalent. NB funded studentships may have more specific entry requirements, please see individual projects for details.
Doctor of Medicine (MD)
- a qualification (held for at least three years at the time of submission of the thesis or body of published work) which is recognized for registration by the General Medical Council for the United Kingdom
- employed for at least two years in appropriate clinical or scientific work, and will complete the majority of the work for the degree during that employment;
- a written letter of support from the Clinical Line Manager stating that they have agreed for the student to undertake the period of research during their clinical training/service and that adequate facilities will be provided to accomplish the work. It is expected that a part time student will spend at least 2.5 days of research/work per 5 working day week;
- a member of academic staff (ATR) of the University will be required to act as the sponsor of the application;
- the source and amount of funding for the research should be clearly stated in the application.
ClinPsyD
a 2:1 degree or above, Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society, at least one year's relevant clinical experience, and you must demonstrate an understanding of the specific role of the clinical psychologist in the health service and your suitability for this.
English language requirements
International applicants are required to provide evidence of proficiency in the English language, if English is not their first language. All research programmes within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMH) require an overall score of IELTS 7.5 with a minimum of 7.0 in each individual component EXCEPT for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology which requires an overall score of IELTS 8.0, with a minimum of 7.5 in each individual component.
