Biography

Jamie joined UEA in 2007 and works within the School of Health Sciences as a Senior Research Associate and in the Norwich Medical School as Research Advisor for the NIHR Research Design Service.

He has worked on a range of health service research projects using quantitative, qualitative and mixed method designs, with particular expertise in the design of process evalutations within clinical trials and developing qualitative methodologies to understand patient-provider communication. Jamie has a particular interest in how to study the contexts in which health interventions are delivered, the role of technology in shaping patient-provider communication and in particular the contribution of linguistic ethnographic methods to conduct such investigations.

Jamie undertook his PhD at the University of East Anglia, studying how people with asthma talk about medicine-taking. He also has a First Class BA (Hons.) degree in Psychology from the Open University, and a BSc. (Hons.) degree in Mathematics & Management from Liverpool University.

Dr Murdoch regularly reviews funding proposals for the NIHR and is an Associate Member of the Health Services & Delivery Research (Commissioned) Board. He reviews journal articles for a range of health service research and social science journals and through his role as Adviser for the NIHR Research Design Service, has extensive experience of reviewing and developing funding proposals.
