STaRLab research purpose
The driver for our research programme is the need to make current physical therapy interventions even better than they are now so that many more people can resume the activities they did before they had a stroke. Research activity is focused on the identification, development and evaluation of physical therapies to enhance recovery of movement after stroke. Our studies are designed to contribute to knowledge of:
To do this we combine clinical, neurophysiological and biomechanical investigation of the production and control of movement.

- how the nervous system recovers after stroke;
- how recovery may be ‘driven’ through the provision of physical therapies;
- what doses of physical therapies are needed for optimum recovery;
- which physical therapies may be most suitable for which stroke survivors.
To do this we combine clinical, neurophysiological and biomechanical investigation of the production and control of movement.
