Key Research Interests

I joined the UEA at the beginning of 2012 as a Research Assistant in Nutrition for the EC-funded European project, NU-AGE; a dietary intervention for the ageing European population (65-79 year olds), investigating nutrition as a modulator of inflammageing.  The intervention will be carried out in five centres across Europe; France, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and the UK (Norwich).  Here, in Norwich, 250 participants will be recruited to the study; half of which will act as a control group and half will receive dietary advice based on a 65+ food pyramid to assist a change in dietary behaviour, for a period of twelve months.

My primary responsibility within the study is to provide the relevant advice and resources in order to promote this change in dietary behaviour.  Dietary assessment will be carried out in order to assess baseline dietary habits and nutrient intake, compliance to the advised changes, and to ensure the diet is maintained across the twelve month intervention period.  Further to this, I will be involved in the day to day running of the study, including assessment of cognition, bone health, and physical performance.
