Biography

After a brief interlude in finance and a Statistics PhD I lectured in operational research and statistics at the University of East Anglia. During this time I also taught statistics to non-specialists, in particular to management and finance students, and as a result wrote, ‘Quantitative Methods for Business, Management and Finance’ which is now in its 4th edition. After having a family I moved to a part- time work as medical statistician in what is now the Medical School at UEA.

Career

Sept 2001- present (40%)
Medical Statistician, School of Medicine, Health Policy and Practice, UEA

1989- 2001
Lecturer/part-time Lecturer in Statistics, School of Mathematics, UEA

1987-1989
Lecturer in Computing Science, School of Information Systems, UEA.

Professional Qualifications and professional memberships

Chartered Statistician and member of the Royal Statistical Society

Research Interests

I provide the statistical lead for a variety of research projects based at UEA and the NHS. This requires close involvement with most parts of the research process, but particularly the planning and design of clinical trials, data analysis and writing up for publication. In my current post I have worked in subject areas as diverse as drinking water, drugs and ophthalmology and medical education although my current work is more focussed on mental health/psychology.
