Career summary
After 8 years as a food biophysicist, I began a career in human nutrition with particular focus on micronutrient requirements and metabolism. Since 1994 my research has included conducting human intervention studies in both patients and healthy individuals, which aimed to investigate micronutrient bioavailability and absorption using stable isotope techniques. More recently research has focused on various aspects involved with the derivation of micronutrient requirements and dietary recommendations.
Key Research Interests
I am currently a member of the EURRECA Network of Excellence project team based in the Nutrition Department of the Norwich Medical School. EURRECA is an EU-funded Network of Excellence with 35 partners from a various European Universities and research organizations. The network was established in 2007 to address current discrepancies in European dietary micronutrient recommendations. Research activities include identifying and collating robust data on micronutrient intake, status and related health outcomes; and producing best practice guidance for the derivation of micronutrient requirements and recommendations. The network is focused on a set of priority micronutrients where risk of deficiency is relatively high in certain population groups, and where current recommendations are most inconsistent.
