Biography
Peter qualified as a clinical psychologist in 2000 from the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College, London and went on to complete a PhD at the Tizard Centre, University of Kent as an NIHR Research Fellow. Since qualifying he has worked in a medium secure assessment and treatment service for offenders with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and currently works within the Broadland Clinic, Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) - Norfolk, just outside Norwich. His research interests fall broadly within the area of developmental psychology and include the adaptation and evaluation of psychological therapies for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Career
Peter is currently a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Research Fellow and is working on projects that aim to investigate psychological factors associated with criminal offending behaviour by people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Other funded projects include a randomised control trial of group cognitive behavioural therapy for people with Asperger Syndrome and high functioning autism who also have problems with anxiety (PAsSA Trial). He is also developing and evaluating criminal justice liaison and diversion services for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities within the county of Norfolk with funding from the Department of Health. He is a Honorary Consultant Clinical and Forensic Psychologist, working at the Broadland Clinic, HPFT-Norfolk.
Academic Background
Peter completed his undergraduate degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. He completed postgraduate training in clinical psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College, London as a Lord Rothermere Fellow. He completed his PhD at the Tizard Centre, University of Kent as an NIHR Research Fellow. He was awarded another NIHR fellowship which runs from 2012 to 2016. He is a registered Clinical and Forensic Psychologist.
